What do we know
Moonfall is a 2022 Science Fiction Disaster Movie co-written and directed by Roland Emmerich.
A mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit and sends it hurtling on a collision course with Earth. With mere weeks before impact and the world on the brink of annihilation, NASA executive and former astronaut Jo Fowler (Halle Berry) is convinced she has the key to saving us all – but only one astronaut from her past, Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) and conspiracy theorist K.C. Houseman (John Bradley) believe her. These unlikely heroes will mount an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love… only to find out that our Moon is not what we think it is.
The cast also includes Charlie Plummer, Michael Peña and Donald Sutherland.
Trailer breakdown
Ok, so… there is no real Moonfall trailer breakdown. It is obvious that some people really needed some cash. Why else would someone like Halle Berry, who was a great actress (I haven’t seen anything of hers that was great, or even good, in years), Patrick Wilson, who I hope plays a villain with his usual gusto and smarminess, Michael Peña, who is a brilliant comedian and Donald Sutherland who needs no introduction, appear in this?
There is a trope named after it: “Money, dear boy”
Hally Berry did it with the X-Men series, Patrick Wilson with Aquaman… and for instance, that was the reason for Sir Alec Guinness to appear in Star Wars. But, let’s get back to the trailer.
This is usual Emmerich drivel and a usual Emmerich trailer, Something big and apocalyptic is coming, there are a lot of shots of people looking intense, afraid or surprised, a lot of CGI and…. that’s about it.
After Independance Day, Godzilla (the bad one), The Day After Tommorow and 2012, did we expect something else? No. Is it in any way scientifically accurate? No. Will there be a patriotic speech? Probably. Lots of landmarks destroyed? Definitely!
And we wouldn’t want it any other way! As seen in the trailer, Moonfall offers more of the same, yet people flock to the theaters to watch movies like that. It’s mindless drivel, but it’s fun! There is action, explosion, great effects, practical and CGI. And that is what a summer blockbuster should be all about. We did get a bit spoiled by the fantastic offerings from the MCU, but this Moonfall trailer brings it back to the roots.
The film is due to release on February 4, 2022.
