Christopher Eccleston played the 9th Doctor in the revival of the Doctor Who series in 2005, after a nearly fifteen year hiatus in production. MegaCon Orlando has announced that he will be a guest at the convention this summer.

Eccleston, whose credits also include Thor: The Dark World and HBO’s The Leftovers joins a growing guest list that includes William Shatner, George Takei and Brendan Fraser. MegaCon is adding more celebrity guests, and they’ll be announcing who they are soon.

In addition to celebrity guests, the convention will feature various programming tracks in anime, comics, television, various workshops, and family-friendly activities – including the costume contests and shopping – and the dealer’s room will be substantial as always.

The significant feature of all this is that MegaCon is returning to Orlando this year as an in-person event, taking over the Orange County Convention Center from August 12 through August 15. Virtual conventions are a decent substitute, but frankly nothing compares to seeing all your friends in person, and this year, at MegaCon, you’ll be able to.

“We’re thrilled to welcome our fans back to MegaCon Orlando this summer — a playground for fans of comics, sci-fi, gaming and more for an impressive weekend of programming, celebrity appearances and interactives,” Fan Expo HQ vice president Andrew Moyes.

MegaCon said it plans to have measures in place to ensure the health and safety of attendees. Those measures will be announced a month before the event.
