The Mandalorian is Lucasfilm and Disney’s runaway Star Wars hit on Disney+, and it borrows so much of its life and spirit from the Western gunslinger motif that people are starting to riff on this fact to create great new fannish content. Beyold, our latest discovery: it’s Big Mandalorian Iron, by Funk Turkey.

This fan-made music video uses footage from the series, cut together in such a way as to give it that old 1950’s Western serial feel. It tells the tale of the Mandalorian, and reveals a few major plot points, so if you haven’t seen the series yet, this is your warning to click away.

It’s a masterful bit of editing and post production work, and the song itself, based on the 1960 Marty Robbins tune “Big Iron”, absolutely nails the sound of the original. It’s almost as though Funk Turkey was the reincarnation of Robbins.

Funk Turkey is a parody and comedy songwriter from Arkansas, a music producer, and a (struggling) video producer. He’s been working as a musician in some aspect or other most of his life, and is now a husband and father of four.
