The world loves The Addams Family, from the original comic strip by Charles Addams from the 1930’s to the TV series in the 60’s, to three live action films in the 90’s. Now witness the awe and mystery of the new animated feature, The Addams Family.
Okay, oversold that a bit. They’re just plain creepy, and they’re kooky. And mostly harmless. Mostly.
Of all the media incarnations of the weird family of horror movie rejects, this one is perhaps closest to the original source material. The Addams Family may finally have found a lasting home.
Charlize Theron features as the voice of Morticia Addams, and Oscar Isaac voices Gomez Addams. The new film’s character designs are closely modeled on the original Charles Addams drawings, and the humor is straight from his books, in a way only possible in full animation. It’s directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan.
The animation studio is Cinesite Animation. This film is their third feature length film so far (the first two being Gnome Alone in 2017, and Trouble in 2019). With this one, though, they seem to have hit stride as a creator of fully animated feature films. Cinesite Animation is better known by the reputation of its parent company, Cinesite, which has been producing visual effects for live action films for more than 20 years.
The Addams Family stars Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Bette Midler, and Allison Janney as a trouble-making journalist, and is scheduled to hit the big screen on October 11, 2019.
