After all this time, a trailer for Toy Story 4 is a welcome sight, but the subject matter is – well – a bit off the beaten path. In the newset film in the series, Woody is tasked with saving the life of a suicidal spork.
Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy. Woody, in turn, has the biggest problem a toy can have: a crisis of faith.
Toy Story 4 has everything it needs to be a roaring success. Disney has been releasing Toy Story movies at the rate of about one every nine or ten years. They don’t bother with actual movie titles, they just put a new number on the end and go with it. Disney knows what we want.
Tim Allen, Tom Hanks and Annie Potts are preprising their roles as Buzz Lightyear, Woody, and a much more worldly wise Bo Beep. Jodi Benson is back as Barbie (she was the voice of Barbie in Toy Story 2,and Toy Story 3, but not the original Toy Story).
Directed by Josh Cooley (Riley’s First Date?), produced by Jonas Rivera (Inside Out, Up) and Mark Nielsen (associate producer Inside Out), and starring the voices of Disney•Pixar’s Toy Story 4 releases to U.S. theaters on June 21, 2019.
