This week, Star Wars Resistance kicked into high gear for the last segment of the season with The Disappeared. After the main plot of the episode had seemingly resolved, Kaz returned home to find Yeager and the crew, himself included, under arrest by Commander Pyre. On Sunday, Descent shows us they wasted no time in rectifying those unfortunate circumstances!
The official synopsis from Lucasfilm reads, “After the First Order discover the Fireball was the ship that crossed into their territory, Yeager’s crew must evade troopers hunting them down. After realizing that Kaz and Yeager have been lying to her, Tam decides to stay with the troopers, convinced her own innocence will save her from the wrath of the First Order.”
A clip has been released, showing the beginning of the episode and the daring escape, on the official Star Wars YouTube channel. Watch it below:
Adding to Resistance’s already extensive pantheon of heroes and villains, through this episode we first encounter the aptly named Agent Tierny, who is, well, uh, an agent of tyranny. An agent of the First Order Security Bureau in the vein of Star Wars Rebels’ Agent Kallus, it seems from the images and the mid-season trailer that Tierny will be the one to welcome Tam to the First Order’s unique brand of hospitality. As we have entered the timeframe of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Resistance’s original characters must largely stand on their own now (besides a cameo from Leia in this episode) so I am excited to see what Tierny brings to the ensemble.
At a screening at Lucasfilm before the debut of the series, writer Brandon Auman remarked that Tam Ryvora’s character development was perhaps the most surprising of the core cast in this season. Indeed, her embrace of the First Order drawn out over the entire season has been at once captivating and chilling, and it will come to a head in this episode. With only two episodes remaining and Tam confirmed to appear in the finale, we know it won’t last, but more than likely it will continue to impart the themes of choices and allegiances that Resistance has so brilliantly displayed for a young generation of Star Wars fans learning, as an old wizard from another fantasy franchise has mused, the difference between what is right and what is easy. Tam’s decisions are a timely examination of the creeping intrusion of fascism into not only the political sphere, but the minds of otherwise good people, but on a level that the Disney Channel demographic can digest it. As the season winds down, I am most looking forward to seeing how Tam transitions into, presumably, the Resistance.
Descent, the next episode of Star Wars Resistance, aired Sunday, March 3 at 10 PM ET/PT on Disney Channel and went live on the DisneyNOW app and Disney Channel VOD at 12:01 AM that same day.
