Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters sequel has just released its first teaser. This is a real, actual project, and this trailer makes it official.
Jason Reitman is the son of Ivan Reitman, who directed the original original Ghostbusters movies. He’s a director in his own right, with three big screen credits to his name so far, those being Thank You For Not Smoking, Up in the Air, and the Oscar and BAFTA Award-winning Juno. The new film comes on the heels of the commercially unsuccessful 2016 Ghostbusters reboot. None the less, interest in the franchise has remained high, with reports not only of an animated feature, but even a continuation of the original 1984 movie and its 1989 sequel, Ghostbusters II, being in the works.
The reveal in this new teaser echoes real life: the announcement that Jason Reitman is working on a proper Ghostbusters 3 sequel was only made last night. Reitman will direct, from a script he’s co-writing with Gil Kenan, who in turn directed Monster House and the remake of Poltergeist.
Ghostbusters 3 doesn’t have an official title yet, but is purported to star Bill Murray in a returning role. If our sources are right, its story will revolve around four teenagers (two boys, two girls) who take up the Ghostbusters mantle themselves and start doing something about new supernatural forces that threaten our world. It’s supposed to premiere sometime in 2020.
