On the heels of their successes with “Box Trolls” and “Kubo and the Two Strings”, Laika Studios presents a trailer for “Missing Link”. his April, meet Mr. Link: 8 feet tall, 630 lbs, and covered in fur, but don’t let his appearance fool you. He is funny, sweet, and adorably literal, making him the world’s most lovable legend at the heart of Missing Link, the globe-trotting family adventure from LAIKA.

The charismatic Sir Lionel Frost considers himself to be the world’s foremost investigator of myths and monsters. The trouble is that none of his small-minded high-society peers seems to recognize this. His last chance for acceptance by the adventuring elite rests on traveling to America’s Pacific Northwest to prove the existence of a legendary creature, a living remnant of Man’s primitive ancestry: The Missing Link.

Hugh Jackman, Zach Galifianakis, Zoe Saldana wearing their stop motion skins. Now that’s costuming.

Tired of living a solitary life in the Pacific Northwest, Mr. Link recruits fearless explorer Sir Lionel Frost to guide him on a journey to find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. Along with adventurer Adelina Fortnight, our fearless trio of explorers encounter more than their fair share of peril as they travel to the far reaches of the world to help their new friend. Through it all, the three learn that sometimes you can find a family in the places you least expect.

The new film stars Hugh Jackman in the role of Sir Lionel Frost, Zoe Saldana as Adelina Fortnight, and Zach Galifianakis as Mr. Link. Also in the cast are Timothy Olyphant, David Walliams, Emma Thompson, Matt Lucas (he played Nardole for two years against Peter Capadi’s Doctor Who), Ching Valdes-Aran, Stephen Fry, and Amrita Acharia, though most of these are just listed on IMDB as “voice actor” without identifying roles. The IMDB page for the film itself is pretty sparse, so there’s no help there.

We do know that the film is being directed by Chris Butler, and produced By Travis Knight p.g.a., and Arianne Sutner p.g.a. We also see that it clearly differentiates itself from the relatively unsophisticated, quickly forgettable Small Foot from Warner Bros. Animation. This is the Big Foot movie we deserve.

Missing Link is scheduled for release on April 12, 2019.

To find out more about the film, visit the Missing Link page on the LAIKA web site.
