Every comic book fan knows that Superman was created by Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel.  However, not every comic book fan knows that Shuster was born in Toronto, Ontario, or that the Canadian comic book awards are named in his honor.

Canada’s Joe Shuster Award honours Canadians who create, self-publish, and sell comics books, graphic novels, and webcomicsThey are named after pioneering Canadian-born artist Joe Shuster (July 10, 1914- July 30, 1992), whose clear, dynamic style and inventive visual flourishes set the standard for graphic storytelling during the infancy of the North American comic book industry.
