This is the last one they’re releasing, which means the release of Marvel’s “The Defenders” itself on Netflix is almost upon us. In this, the third trailer they’ve released, the four of them are just finishing up some Chinese food.  That they’re all together in the opening scene is a sign that this scene is probably not from the pilot episode itself, but we’ve been wrong before.

A new character makes his appearance, a mentor figure plucked straight from Joseph Campbell’s The Hero’s Journey. He’s there to warn them that the battle for New York is upon them, and that it’s time for them to collect their respective fertilizers. Sigourney Weaver emerges as the Big Bad, a new character created for the series named Alexandra Reid. She brings gravitas to the role, and we can hardly wait to watch her chew the scenery.

Marvel’s The Defenders follows Daredevil AKA Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist AKA Danny Rand (Finn Jones), a quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, each burdened with their own personal challenges, who reluctantly realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

The series is executive produced by showrunner Marco Ramirez ?(Marvel’s Daredevil Season 2, Fear the Walking Dead), Douglas Petrie (Marvel’s Daredevil, American Horror Story), Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage, Marvel’s Iron Fist), and Jim Chory (Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage, Marvel’s Iron Fist).  That is a lot of executive producers, and we have to wonder how many of them will actually be hands on on the production itself, and how many of them are just contractual obligations Marvel Studios had to agree to.

The cast also features Elodie Yung (Marvel’s Daredevil, Gods of Egypt) as Elektra Natchios, and we see her for a split second in her bright red Elektra regalia for a split second, facing off against Charlie Cox and Finn Jones – apparently they’re not on the same team. This marks the second time the character has been brought to the screen, the first being the Daredevil movie from 2003, and the box office disaster Elektra in 2005. Jennifer Garner played her in both films.

The cast also includes Jessica Henwick (Marvel’s Iron Fist, Game of Thrones), Rosario Dawson (Marvel’s Luke Cage, Sin City), Rachael Taylor (Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Transformers), Eka Darville (Marvel’s Jessica Jones), Elden Henson (Marvel’s Daredevil, Hunger Games), Deborah Ann Woll (Marvel’s Daredevil, True Blood), Scott Glenn (Marvel’s Daredevil, The Leftovers), Carrie-Anne Moss (Marvel’s Jessica Jones, The Matrix Trilogy) and Simone Missick? (Marvel’s Luke Cage).

Marvel’s The Defenders is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix. All 8 original episodes of Marvel’s The Defenders ?will premiere exclusively on 18th August, 2017 on Netflix. While it’s true that Disney is purportedly launching its own digital service and pulling properties from Netflix, for now, at least, the Defenders and the other Marvel projects are not part of that migration.
