DC just announced four one shot specials featuring some of DC’s heroes going against Looney Tunes villains. No details were given about the story lines in the specials, just four images, followed by the words “Stay Tuned”.
Of course, this isn’t the first time a crossover between the DC heroes and Looney Tunes characters has happened. In 2000, DC published the four issue mini-series Superman And Bugs Bunny. In that story, Mr. Mxyzptlk, with a little help from Looney Tunes character Yoyo the Dodo (Porky In Wackyland, 1938), causes a little interdimensional mischief by having the Justice League meeting the Looney Tunes characters, and teaming up to save the day.
There was also several variant covers featuring Looney Tunes characters on DC’s popular comics, such as Marvin The Martian on the cover of Green Lantern, with Green Lantern rings on all his fingers. Or this variant cover of Batman.
Keep in mind those were variant covers and, unlike Superman And Bugs Bunny, the characters didn’t appear in the issues, themselves.
As for these one shots that DC will be releasing, all that we know is that it features four DC heroes going up against four Looney Tunes villain, who are reimagined, and drawn in a style similar to what DC has done with some of the Hanna-Barbera properties, Wacky Racelanders in particular.
This does pose a question, are these just merely one shots, or if we’re going to see more reimaginings of the Looney Tunes characters existing in the DC Universe. All DC is saying is “Stay Tuned”.
