DC Super Hero Girls_5537ee21c01bd1.39734216Let the squeeing begin! Starting in Fall 2015, DC’s Super Hero Girls will be arriving in a coordinated new universe of storytelling, playing out across multiple entertainment content platforms and products to create what they hope will be an immersive world. The goal is to create something that empowers and inspires girls to discover their true potential. DC Entertainment, Warner Bros., Mattel, Random House Publishing and The LEGO Group are all joining forces make this happen.

It’s being developed for girls aged 6-12, and centers on the female superheroes and supervillains of the DC Comics universe during their formative years—prior to discovering their full super power potential. They’re going for fresh, clean designs with characters such as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumble Bee, Poison Ivy, Katana and many more to make their unprecedented teen-aged introduction. Each character has her own story line that explores what teen life is like as a Super Hero, including discovering her unique abilities, nurturing her remarkable powers and mastering the fundamentals of being a hero.

The initial launch of DC Super Hero Girls in Fall 2015 will include an immersive digital experience, original digital content and digital publishing—providing opportunities for girls to interact with characters, learn about the story lines, and engage in customizable play.  TV specials, made-for-videos, toys, apparel, books and other product categories will begin to roll out in 2016.

This sort of messes with the story lines – kind of a lot – because many of these characters didn’t become who they are until well into adulthood, but if we’re willing to suspend our natural Whiskey Tango Foxtrot reaction, it could work. Kudos go to the masterminds at DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. for finding a way to put all this creative energy to positive use. From our perspective, all that really matters is that children are inspired to find the greatness that’s in each of them.

And that is pretty darned cool.
