Star Trek: Renegades has just released their official trailer. This is the interface where a show and its fandom overlap: the project is headed up by producer Sky Conway, and executive producer Joshua B. Cole, but some of the actors are names you’ll recognize: Tim Russ (Tuvok from Star Trek: Voyager), Walter Koenig (Star Trek, the original series), Manu Intiraymi, (Icheb from Star Trek: Voyager), Adrienne Wilkinson (Xena’s daughter Livia/Eve from Xena: Warrior Princess), Sean Young (she played opposite Harrison Ford in Bladerunner), and a lot of other familiar names. The cast list reads like a Who’s Who in science fiction movies.

The goal of the Star Trek: Renegades project is to bring Star Trek back to its true home – back to television as a continuing episodic series. These are the same people who produced the award winning Trek fan film Star Trek: Of Gods and Men.  There is a chance this may yet happen, in time for Trek’s 50th anniversary – but the Robert Burnett driven Star Trek: Federation proposal is officially dead in the water. The rumors persist, though, and of Star Trek: Axanar and Star Trek: Renegades, only Renegades is clearly designed to be the foundation of a series.

The actual full pilot is near completion. The Renegades production crew have got a final edit nearly done, and they’re working on effects work and color timing, and the whole thing will be ready to be unleashed upon an unsuspecting world in the next few months. Stay tuned.

Story Synopsis

It is ten years after Voyager’s return from the Delta Quadrant, and the Federation is in a crisis. The Federation’s main suppliers of dilithium crystals are disappearing. Space and time have folded around several planets, effectively isolating them from any contact with outside worlds. And this phenomenon is not natural – someone or something is causing this to happen. This necessitates drastic measures; some of which are outside the Federation’s normal jurisdiction. For this, Admiral Pavel Chekov, head of Starfleet Intelligence, turns to Commander Tuvok, Voyager’s former security officer and current head of the newly reorganized Section 31. Tuvok must put together a new covert, renegade crew – mostly outcasts and rogues – even criminals. This new crew is tasked with finding out what is causing the folding of time and space, and stopping it – at all costs. But will they be able to put aside their differences and stop trying to kill one another in time to accomplish their mission?
