George Miller’s Mad Max movie franchise blazed onto the geek scene in the 1980s, making Mel Gibson and Tina Turner even bigger stars than they already were. It was the very definition of the post-apocalyptic science fiction adventure, and the films Mad Max, Road Warrior, and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome made an indelible flaming mark on the collective psyches of movie-goers and sci-fi fans everywhere.
The new film is called Mad Max: Fury Road, and is once again helmed by mastermind George Miller, who co-wrote the script with Brendan McCarthy and Nico Lathouris, and co-produced with Doug Mitchell and P.J. Voeten. It stars Tom Hardy, a nearly unrecognizable Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough, Hugh Keays-Byrne and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
The trailer hits all the sweet spots: action, pathos, a hint at romance, and lots and lots of things blowing up and people dying in spectacular ways. Modern computer animation takes it all up an extra couple of notches.
Mad Max: Fury Road is being distributed by Warner Bros. and is currently scheduled for a release date in the U.S. and the U.K. of May 15, 2015.
