Peggy Carter and the Howling Commandos

Peggy Carter and the Howling Commandos

A few days back we found out Hayley Atwell is guest starring on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Peggy Carter. Today, TV Guide has released a picture showing Atwell along with Kenneth Choi and Neal McDonough, reprising their roles as Howling Commandos Jim Morita and Dum Dum Dugan, respectively. This appears to be a flashback sequence, as the characters are the same age as we remember them back during World War 2. The picture only shows Choi and McDonough, so we don’t know if the other Howling Commandos (Jacques Dernier, James Montgomery Falsworth and Gabe Jones) will appear.

The last we saw the Commandos in action together was in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, after they mounted their attack on the Hydra bases in the final confrontation with the forces of the Red Skull. Since then, we’ve only seen and heard passing references to the Commandos in the Marvel film and TV universe (Dum Dum Dugan does appear in the Agent Carter one shot short film though). On the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show, we learn that Agent Antoine Triplett is the grandson of one of the Howling Commandos, but we never learn which one. Maybe we’ll find out next season!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to ABC’s fall lineup September 23, 2014.
