In Piece by Piece, the legendary Pharrel Williams tells the story of his life, but with a twist: it’s all told in LEGO.

Piece by Piece is a unique cinematic experience that invites audiences on a vibrant journey through the life of cultural icon Pharrell Williams. Told through the lens of LEGO® animation, turn up the volume on your imagination and witness the evolution of one of music’s most innovative minds.

The movie is an autobiographical piece (also a rarity in cinema) where Pharrell Williams shows his imaginative and creative process using LEGO, as he constructs LEGO models representing his artistic development. Each build reflects a different creative milestone. Williams himself is listed as one of the producers on this film, the others being Morgan Neville, who also directed the film, and Caitrin Rogers. The writers are Brian C. Brown and Elliot DiGuiseppi, with story (of course) by Pharrell Williams.

This isn’t quite like any LEGO movie you’ve seen before. Most of the characters you’ll meet represent real people in the real world, and are voiced by those same people. Thus, you have Morgan Neville as himself as producer and director of the very film he’s producing and directing, plus Kendrick Lamar, Gwen Stefani, Timaland, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z, and of course Pharrel Williams himself.

The production is being managed by Focus Features, who has a reputation for doing films that are off the beaten path, and the work of the animation itself is being done by Australian animation feature production studio Animal Logic.

Piece by Piece comes to theaters in the U.S. and Ecuador on October 11, 2024, October 10 in Germany, but doesn’t hit Animal Logic’s native Australia until December 5. There are no release dates yet for the U.K., Japan, Mexico, Italy, Spain or Canada, but all those are planned, and the Japanese version will be released in Japanese.

We would like to express our appreciation for Pharrel Williams as an artist, along with Focus Features, LEGO Group and Morgan Neville for taking a chance on a wild idea. The world needs more like this.
